1-Day Workshop
This one-day event for teenagers introduces the basic concepts of earning, saving, spending and managing money. Students enjoy a fast-paced tour of the steps to financial fitness and participate in hands-on activities that demonstrate the importance of wise financial planning. Students also consider the value of money and evaluate their own attitudes toward spending and saving. This workshop provides a sample of what the 3-day Smart Start to Money course is like and offers small group activities that allow students to explore the importance of making wise money decisions even while they are teenagers.
3-Day Course This dynamic three-day course enables teenagers to understand vital personal finance, saving, and investing principles knowledge that will empower them for a future of successful financial management.
Students learn skills in banking, budgeting, and being wise consumers, as well as how to avoid the overuse of credit. This course emphasises the benefits of saving for short-term goals and the value of investing to meet long-term goals.
Teenagers also learn to read The Financial Times, research potential investments, and minimize risk by diversifying their financial portfolios. Smart Start participants enjoy games, activities, and guest speakers, as well as competing in the YoungBiz Portfolio Challenge, where they team up to create and present financial portfolios to a panel of experts.
Equipped with practical lifeskills to handle money, students will continue to demonstrate what they've learned long after this course experience.
"Student money does matter," says Jenny Clarke, reporter for The Guardian papers.
